This is a breakfast table I built in a country style with a bit of a twist. The top is made from hard maple but what distinguishes it are the two strips of spalted maple and the two breadboard ends also made from spalted maple. Spalted maple is the result of a maple tree dying in the woods and being attacked by fungus and bacteria. The result for the lucky lumberman who finds this tree before it totally turns into rotted wood dust is a wood with unique black stripes and designs running through it created by fungus. It is a very unique and beautiful accent. The turned legs have been painted hunter green. I did not build the chairs because in all honesty this style of chair is cheaper to purchase from local stores than to have me construct them.
